Following their recent launch of the eight foundation clubs for the 2017 national women’s league, the AFL has announced two more National Talent Search dates for next month.
The talent search is designed to give female athletes, who are currently active in other sports, the opportunity to test their footy skills and fitness.
State female academy coaches will run the sessions, with some high profile female players on hand to lend their expert guidance at the Melbourne session. While, Melbourne captain and AFL Female Ambassador, Daisy Pearce, will lead the session in Darwin.
The AFL has partnered up with Rookie Me to run the Draft Combine style athletic testing, with athletes testing themselves at; standing and running vertical jumps, agility, 20m sprints and the beep test.
Participants will also get an opportunity to try their hand at football skills including kicking, marking and hand balling as well as their decision making, spatial awareness and appetite to compete.
